A meeting of the New South Wales Young Liberals Party in Sydney has been disrupted by two men dressed in Ku Klux Klan-style hoods.

Police said they received a complaint about two men gatecrashing the meeting around 10:00pm on Monday.

The meeting had been shut down by the time officers arrived and the men had been removed.

Buzzfeed has released a video showing one man jumping on stage to take control of the microphone, meanwhile a man attending the meeting is seen shouting “white power”.

Other people are heard calling “get them out of here”.

The commotion came ahead of a discussion about Donald Trump’s ban on seven Muslim-majority nations entering the US.

Liberal Party condemns protest

NSW Liberal Party state director Chris Stone said the men were protestors and an investigation would be launched into the incident.

“Two protesters wearing highly offensive costumes entered a Young Liberal Council meeting last night,” he said.

“The identities of the protesters were not known to those present at the meeting.

“The Liberal Party strongly condemns the highly offensive nature of this protest.”

NSW’s Liberal Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, said while people had the right to express their view, they should do so respectfully.

“I don’t want to tell people what to think but what I do want to tell people be respectful,” she said.

“Do not impinge on other people’s rights and responsibilities — be respectful at all times if you want to express your view.

“The community and myself do not like extremism of any type and I think they are the sentiments which people will be feeling this morning.”
